Ways to Cope with Depression

There are lots of things that we can do to boost our mood. We can do these things as well as taking antidepressant medications, or we can try these first before making the choice to start taking antidepressant medications.

Talking to others

When we feel low we can tend to avoid people as it can all seem a bit much. This can make our mood worse as we miss out. When we feel low, it is important to try and get out there and chat to family and friends.

If you feel that you would like to talk to someone about your mood and what is causing it, you GP might be able to recommend therapy services in your area. If you live in Fife a list of counselling services can be found here.

Looking after your wellbeing

When we are low watching what we eat, making sure we get enough sleep and exercise can be the last thing on our mind. However research has shown that exercise, sleeping well and eating right can all improve our mood. See the wellbeing sections on moodcafé for some tips regarding this.
