Parental Separation and Divorce
When a relationship breaks down it can be difficult and painful time for all the family. Most people do manage to make the adjustment given time. The information below focuses on how parents can help their children cope.
The organisation "Understanding Children" have a leaflet - Divorce and separation: helping children and parents to cope - which gives an insight in to what children may experience when a relationship breaksdown. It also gives advice on how parents may help.
The leaflet "Family Break-ups", is designed for children (see opposite)
"Relationships Scotland" (see opposite) undertake family mediation work. They aim aims to help parents who are separating or divorcing make their own arrangements and plans for the future, particularly regarding their children.
