What is Eating Disorders Not Otherwise Specified (EDNOS)?

EDNOS is a type of eating disorder. People with a diagnosis of EDNOS make up more than half of people with an eating disorder and includes eating disorder presentations that do not exactly fit the description of either Anorexia Nervosa or Bulimia Nervosa. They may have features of one or both and are often as severe in terms of psychological and physical effects. Of this group, most is known about Binge Eating Disorder (BED).

What is Binge Eating Disorder?

Binge Eating Disorder is a type of eating disorder. People with Binge Eating Disorder have episodes of binge eating (see  "Bulimia Nervosa" in Related Sections to right) but do not try to control their weight by purging (e.g. making themselves vomit). Binge Eating Disorder is often associated with obesity problems and, like other eating disorders, is often accompanied by emotional difficulties such as anxiety, depression and low self-esteem. People with Binge Eating Disorder often feel guilty and ashamed after eating which can cause them to eat in secret.

Physical and Psychological effects of EDNOS

Physical and psychological effects in EDNOS are similar to those experienced by people with listed in Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa (see Related Sections to right)
